My Experience On Coorg, Karnataka, India
Introduction
Coorg is a place I call the Indian heaven. Having everything from dense forests to coffee plantations to cities like Mysore, it is one of the best tourism spots in India.
How I traveled
I am a resident of India and live in the city of Chennai, Tamil-Nadu, India. As it is an overnight journey, I used the most popular and the cheapest mode of transport in India. The train. It took me 9 hours approximately to travel. The train (Kaveri Express) departed at the time of 21:15 IST and reached Mysore Junction at 6:40 IST. If you are interested in traveling via train, then I have left links down below for reference.
Places I went to
We had an rental car waiting for us outside (No Driver). We got the keys and we started driving from Mysore railway station to Madikeri (Coorg). We rented an independent villa.
Day 1
We first went to the place called the Raja Seat. It is a large viewpoint for the endless hills in front of you. You are allowed to take photos and the entrance is of no charge when I went there. After finishing it, we ate one of the local foods called Chaat which is basically a mixture of fruits with spices. The delicious mouth watering displays where kept in the front and lured us into eating it.
Day 2
The second day we went to this place called Thala Kaveri and that is the place where the famous Indian river Kaveri originates. It flows through Tamil-Nadu and merges in the Bay Of Bengal. And Thala Kaveri is the place where it originates as a small stream and grows into a mighty river. Kaveri is a holy river and there is also a temple there. You might see people taking bath in that as it is believed to erase any sinsDay 3
For the last day we went back to Mysore for boarding the train that night. But before that we couldn't resist our temptation to visit the Mysore palace with the lights on that evening. It truly a magnificent and a mesmerizing sight. The whole palace is large and is covered with led lights. We boarded the same train, the Kaveri Express. It departed at 9:00 PM IST and reached Chennai central. We took a local train from there to make it back to our home.
If you are interested in traveling to Coorg then here are some tips and instruction.
1. If you live in a country other than India then you would want to fly out to Bangalore and then board an train to Mysore.
2. If you are an Indian resident then you probably would want to come via train. The link can be found below at the end of the post.
3. Prepare for a cold environment and pack winter clothing, Probably a jerkin at the most, as Coorg is a hill-station and temperature can plunge to 10°.
4. You might also want to prepare for traffic as the roads are thin and mornings are usually filled with cars and tourists wanting to go their destination. I had to wait for 20 mins for the traffic to clear
4. You would want to have a rental car as moving around the city with the car is the easiest
